So today was the appointment with Ortho. In the ideal world both parents would be able to go to every appointment but in the real world that's just not the case. We learned early on in this journey that it was divide and conquer. Mr. C had neck x-rays taken today before he sat and waited for the Ortho specialist here at BC Children's Hospital. The Ortho Dr...we'll call him Dr. R, feels that this arm issue is a neuro issue. He feels that it could be scar tissue or an issue from the last decompression surgery( involves removing the lamina of the first and sometimes the second or even third cervical vertebrae and part of the occipital bone of the skull
to relieve pressure. The flow of spinal fluid may be accompanied by a
shunt. Since this surgery usually involves the opening of the dura mater and the expansion of the space beneath, a dural graft is usually applied to cover the expanded posterior fossa) that Mr. C had. His muscle and nerves are not working properly but there is no indication that it has something to do with his bones. So Dr. R will write a letter to our Neurosurgeon ( who feels it's not his issue) and our Neurologist ( who had no answers the last time) to try and get them to get us some answers. I'm starting to look into the process of heading down to the States to see one of the Neurosurgeons there...we saw him when we were at the LPA Conference in Anaheim. Is it possible? Not sure. But I am sure that we will do whatever we can to make sure Mr. C gets what he needs.
