A moment in time

It was just a moment. One brief second. There was nothing I could do. I tried to avoid but braced for impact. Headlights in front of me. Airbag going off. Blood running down my face. The crash, the crunch. I couldn't get out. Trapped inside. Pleading for someone to help me. Crying out. Watching the traffic drive by. Seeing shadows of people on the other side of the car... Wanting so desperately to phone John. Wanting some human contact. An older man on the phone with 911 came and held my hand. The firemen arrived. They cut me out. My leg was trapped. A fireman sat beside me the entire time, I was so cold. I could see my glasses on the dash. The garage door opener on the sun shade.
They finally got me out. On a spine board. To the ambulance. Strapped in ready to go... Kids in the car? No just me. I'm cold. Warm blanket and iv. Drive through to RCH. Lucky to be alive everyone says. What kind of car was I driving? Wow. Serious MVA. Mechanism of the injury. Asked officer if I dreamed that someone crossed the yellow line. He said no I didn't dream.
John and Michele there to meet the ambulance. I cry. C spine. They cut my clothes. X-ray my chest. CT my body. Head to toe. I cry out. My hand and foot are in pain. So cold. Lips so dry. My face was burning. Airbag exploding.  Lucky... Everyone saying lucky... Concerned faces. So brave they say. I'm doing so well... I'm crying. So cold. The xrays shows broken foot and hand.  Warm blanket...just one moment.
