Did you know that 80% of Little People have average sized parents? I have a degree in Biochemistry...I studied genetics. When I was told Connor was an LP....my mind went blank and I thought "but that is a dominant mutation?". People ask me all the time if it is "in" the family. I often don't know how to respond. Yes, Connor is in my family and no we have no history of dwarfism in our family. It's called a spontaneous mutation in the DNA that makes up the sperm or the egg. It happens before conception. Achondroplasia results from a single base pair change in the DNA...one tiny change. The stats say that the chances are 1:25000 for having a child with Achondroplasia...and yes we feel like we won the lottery because our son is one amazing kid.
