When we have Thanksgiving Dinner we have dessert...it's our favorite part of the meal. My Nanie use to make desserts and when she couldn't do it anymore, my Auntie Cathie took on the roll. There have been a couple of times when I needed to step in and take on that roll and this year was one of those times ( we missed you Auntie Cathie and Uncle Ken). There was only 17 of us for dinner this year. Seemed so small in comparison to some other times. We have three large banquet tables and various chairs that my folks purchased from places over the years. This year we made a 25 lb Turkey and a large ham. We only have sit down meals with the food being passed down to the left...my cousin Chris stood up and would bring things down to the other end of the table. A toast is customary and usually my dad will do it and thank the cook etc. The meal ends with dessert....usually three or four choices, although my dad said there should be only one...Pumpkin Pie. It changes from year to year and if my brother had any say, it would be coconut cream pie. He doesn't eat dessert except for that. Sorry Bro, not this year. There is always Pumpkin Pie, with real whip cream. Other favorites include: Lemon meringue, Mandarin Orange Cheesecake, banana cream, blueberry cream, pineapple delight, trifle and it goes on and on. Seconds are allowed and pieces only come in one size...LARGE!
